Presentation title: Implementing digital slides into undergraduate pathology course at University of Tartu


Ave Minajeva has earnt her PhD in pathology working in a joint project on cardiovascular pathopysiology between University of Tartu and Université de Paris-Sud. After post-doc at Heidelberg University, she was going through residency in pathology at University of Tartu and is currently an associate professor of pathology at University of Tartu. She is also a chair of board of newly founded Estonian Association of Digital Pathology.
Ave Minajeva is modernizing pathology teaching at the university, especially by introducing digital microscopy into pathology learning. The talk will summarize most important technical issues and results of student feedback on implementing digital slides into undergraduate pathology course at University of Tartu. Particularly the advantages and shortcomings of Moodle database module will be outlined together with tips. Analysis of students feedback clearly showed they preferred digital slides to conventional microscopy. The key elements for successful independent learning have been tutorial videos along with other learning materials presented for each digital slide in the database.
