Research integration in teaching

A university professor usually has 3 main duties - teaching, development of curriculum and research. In this lecture we will see how to combine all of them. Knowledge in 21st century is constantly growing and developing. Teaching only accepted facts to our undergraduate and postgraduate students will give them 2 important risks: 1) to be reluctant to any knew knowledge; 2) to accept any new information without analyzing it’s validity. Furthermore, research requires teamwork, but quite often it is not an easy task to create one. Both parties will benefit from introducing research methods in teaching - students will learn methods which will allow them to be up to date through all their professional career, ensuring lifelong learning, but professors will develop their research.

Biography

Ilze Maldupa is Assistant Professor of Conservative Dentistry and Oral Health at Riga Stradiņš University in Latvia and professor of Degree Thesis at Universidad Austral de Chile (Southern University of Chile). In 2007 she obtained her Dental degree and in 2013 - PhD in Medical science at Riga Stradiņš University.

Currently she is a member in Editorial Board of Dental Traumatology journal and reviewer of international dental journals. Also the author and co-author of several national and international publications, regularly participates in international conferences and congresses, in 2010 received a Travel Award of European Association of Dental Public Health (EADPH); has been invited as a speaker and guest lecturer in conferences and courses in Latvia and Chile. She is a member of International Association of Dental Research (IADR) and European Association of Dental Public Health (EADPH).

Her current research interests are cariology (caries risk assessment, risk factors of caries and of Early Childhood Caries (ECC), non-invasive and minimal invasive caries treatment methods), dental public health and epidemiology.
